Once upon a time…

An eclectic style “hôtel de maître” built in 1906 located in a central and lively district of Ixelles (Brussels). The house was converted into offices in the 1980s and used as such until now. Today, my project is to give it a new life to accommodate guests who want to stay in Brussels differently.

The house will be extensively renovated and converted into 4 elegant suites and a warm reception area. The character of the house will be highlighted by old and contemporary materials, furniture and objects, which will also give an eclectic interior design.

If you want to support me with this great adventure, you can follow the progress of the project and renovation on this website, instagram or facebook and by subscribing to the newsletter.

A little tour?

5 July 2024

There you go! The house has been waiting to be taken care of for almost a year now. We just needed to think a little bit, to digest, to re-think, to re-digest, lift, no lift, etc… You see what I mean. To submit the building permit application (only twice, apparently a feat) and even to defend it with a power point that interested no one. To be glad about the acceptance of the permit and to celebrate (there are too many occasions to celebrate in this type of project). To remove the carpets and suspended ceilings to see what is hidden underneath. To choose a contractor. In fact, you don't know who chooses who... Waiting for him to be available. No, that's not true, he wanted to start right away. We must return to Caesar etc. Et voilà ! Months have passed and work has finally started!

Here's a little pre-work tour of the house to begin with.

Looking forward to give you fresh news soon!

Time to choose

We'll keep that !

Certainly the eclectic façade! With its white stones and blue stone elements, bays of various shapes (I warned you, it’s eclectic…), ironwork fences and railings, and little garden… which participates in the “landscape design” of the neighborhood. Inside, it’s mainly the moldings on the ground floor that I will pamper like the apple of my eye. Unfortunately, the moldings on the other ceilings are in too poor condition to be preserved. And there are no more chimneys. A blessing in disguise… I’ll work more in depth on the interior aesthetics!

But that won't work !

For those who were fans, I am so sorry to inform them that the front bay window that replaced the old balcony on the ground floor and the back veranda will not last long. Too 80's... Neither will the duckboards giving access to the garden. The old aluminum and wood frames will of course be replaced (insulation required). The herringbone parquet flooring discovered under the carpet and the multiple layers is unfortunately too damaged to be kept. The adorable mezzanine on the top floor is of no use given its dimensions and especially its ceiling height. Air conditioners have had their day. Finally, archaeological excavations have allowed us to unearth an ancient Egyptian tomb probably dating from ... from the 80s too :-D.
